मेरठ (एस0 स्टीफन) । बुधवार को मेरठ के शातिर चोरों ने बैंक में मोटी चोरी करने की नीयत से 10 फुट लंबी सुरंग बना डाली लेकिन गनीमत रही कि वह बैंक में घुसने के बाद कैश तक नहीं पहुंच सके। आज सुबह बैंक खुलने पर सुरंग के बारे में बैंक मैनेजर को पता चला तो मैनेजर ने पुलिस को सूचना दी। वाकया दिल्ली रोड स्थित यूनाइटेड बैंक ऑफ इंडिया का है। बैंक खुलते ही कर्मचारियों में हड़कंप मच गया। बैंक में बिखरी मिट्टी देखकर जब मैनेजर और कर्मचारियों ने आगे देखा तो उनके होश उड़ गए। यह मिट्टी सुरंग की निकली जो बैंक के बाहर रखे जेनरेटर के पास नाले की तरफ से बैंक में बनाई गई थी। आनन-फानन में पुलिस को सूचना दी गई तो थाना पुलिस समेत एसपी सिटी मान सिंह चैहान, सीओ मौके पर पहुंचे। प्रारंभिक जांच में सुरंग की लंबाई करीब 10 फुट पाई गई है। सुरंग ऐसी है कि उसमें से कोई निकल नहीं सकता। दूसरी बात यह कि नाले के पास से सुरंग निकली है। फिलहाल पुलिस मामले की जांच कर रही है।
सुबह करीब 9रू30 बजे बैंक खुलने पर सुरंग का पता लगा तो बैंक बैंक मैनेजर शानू मुखर्जी ने अफसरों को सूचना दी। फॉरेंसिक टीम और डॉग स्चयड को भी जांच के लिए मौके पर बुलाया लिया गया। शाख प्रबंधक का कहना है कि बदमाश अगर बैंक का स्ट्रांग रूम तोड़ देते तो बड़ी वारदात संभव थी। लुटेरे बैंक से कैश ले जाने में नाकाम रहे।

बैंक में चोरी की अफवाह बड़ी तेजी से फैली तो बैंक के बाहर भीड लग गई। पुलिस ने किसी को बैंक में जाने से रोक दिया।

अंदर पुलिस बैंक में सुरंग मिलने के मामले की जांच कर रही थी कि बैंक आए एक ग्राहक की बाइक चोरी हो गई। उसने थाना टीपीनगर पुलिस को घटना की जानकारी दी। समाचार लिखे जाने तक बाइक का पता नहीं चल पाया था। पूर्व शहर विधायक लक्ष्मीकांत बाजपेई, भाजपा के महानगर महामंत्री कमल दत्त शर्मा व अन्य भाजपा नेता भी मौके पर पहुंचे तो उनकी भी पुलिस अधिकारियों से झड़प हो गई। पुलिस ने कहा कि हमें अपना काम करना दें।
