अहमदाबाद । गोधरा ट्रेन अग्निकांड मामले में विशेष एसआईटी कोर्ट द्वारा कुछ लोगों को दोषी ठहराने तथा कुछ को बरी किए जाने को चुनौती देने वाली अपीलों पर गुजरात हाई कोर्ट ने फैसला सुना दिया है। कोर्ट ने एसआईटी की विशेष अदालत की ओर से मामले में 11 दोषियों की फांसी की सजा को उम्रकैद में बदल दिया है। अब इस मामले में किसी भी दोषी को फांसी की सजा नहीं मिली है। विशेष एसआईटी कोर्ट ने 1 मार्च, 2011 को इस मामले में 31 लोगों को दोषी करार दिया था और 63 को बरी कर दिया था। दोषियों में 11 को फांसी तथा 20 को उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई गई थी। मालूम हो कि 27 फरवरी, 2002 को गोधरा स्टेशन पर साबरमती एक्सप्रेस के एस-6 कोच में आग लगा दी गई थी। घटना में 59 लोगों की मौत हो गई थी। मृतकों में अधिकांश कार सेवक थे, जो अयोध्या से लौट रहे थे। इस घटना के बाद राज्यभर में ब़ड़े पैमाने पर हिंसा और दंगे हुए थे। बाद में दोषी ठहराए जाने को चुनौती देते हुए हाई कोर्ट में कई अपील दायर की गई। जबकि राज्य सरकार ने 63 लोगों को बरी करने पर सवाल उठाया। गुजरात सरकार द्वारा गठित नानावटी आयोग ने अपनी रिपोर्ट में कहा था कि एस-6 कोच का अग्निकांड कोई दुर्घटना नहीं थी बल्कि उसमें आग लगाई गई थी।
